The Afghan Hound is an elegant breed that is a loyal companion but can be reserved with strangers. They require regular grooming and plenty of space to exercise.

- Tall and slender build
- Long, elegant face
- Coat: Thick, silky hair
- Dark, triangular eyes
- Black nose
- Tail is feathered and curled at the tip
- Height: 25-27 inches
- Weight: 50-60 pounds
- Average lifespan: 12-14 years

- Dignified, shy, reserved, independent, sweet, loyal, affectionate, sensitive
- Interaction with people: Wary of strangers; good with mature children
- Training: Can be difficult to train and housebreak

- Enjoys playing in a yard; needs plenty of exercise

- Discovered in Afghanistan
- Exists in the Middle East in three varieties: short-haired, fringe-haired and long/thick-haired
